Yuliya Zelinskaya – and the “Theatrical Realism”

Yuliya Zelinskaya – and the “Theatrical Realism”

We have seen a notable discontinuity in your production. You tackle different topics that surely touch your sensitivity as an artist.

Thank you for your questions. I hope to answer all of them fully

Concerning tackling different topics:   Actually, I have two main themes I’ve been working on:  1) The theme: “URANUS AND NEPTUNE’S SPACE” and
2) The theme: “BODY LANGUAGE”

Different topics effect my techniques that I use for each of my Art Work pieces.  It also depends on the subject matter that is exhibited within my thoughts and the best way I can portray them.

But I love to experiment with new ideas; always depending on my imagination and what may be manifested from those deepest and magical thoughts azwithin me. So, I often try drawing those things that inspire me the most or touch my life at the time. Sometimes, even waking up at night with a plethora of ideas from my dreams.

Different topics effect my techniques that I use for each of my Art Work pieces.  It depends on the subject matter that is exhibited within my thoughts and the best way I can portray them. For example, one of my paintings that I was inspired in trying to paint, Golden Poppies-Flowers, using a technique I trying to develop. This ended up that these Poppies did not want to cooperate with my technique.  So, my flowers decided that I needed a new approach to  painting my Golden Poppies-Flowers, totally in a different fashion.  Even a painting can teach and correct an Artist!

Now that I have new inspiration of ideas, the near future will be broadening my enthusiasm towards even more interest in experimenting, with new techniques.  This new adventure will be radically different from my previous works of Art, but this does not scare me; on the contrary, I feel the excitement and desire to generate, to design, to create, to fabricate and produce new Art that comes from my heart and soul!

Do you want to tell us about your journey as an artist?

In any case, it seems that there is a very strong link between the exploration of life and your production.

As far back as I can remember, I have always loved to draw!  Ever since my childhood, all the walls in my relative’s house have been posted with my childhood artwork.  Thanks to my parents, they have always inspired me to be creative.   By seeing the world through painting, it seems to be easier for me to perceive the world as it is; through analyzing it and then evaluating what becomes of my perceptions at the time. As a child and into my teenage years, if something pleases me, I painted it with enthusiasm!  If something worries me, I painted!  And, if I thought about something, I painted!  Something needs to be said, I also express it through painting.  This is led me to Art School at a young age.

There came a time in my young life where I had to think about my future, and that moment was when I decided to devote myself to a profession.   So, I entered into and graduated from the Russian Academy of Justice.  As time went on, my heart and soul was troubled, as it was difficult for me to escape from my most deepest desire within me: Art.  As Fate would have it, that allowed me to pursue my Destiny.   I could return to my dreams and my imagination, manifested through my paintings.  Now, I am excited to be where I am in life, being able to paint and I feel in harmony with myself and with the world around me!

Sometimes, when I start to work, I do not see the whole strategy of my thoughts.   The images that come to me, at first, can change in a heart beat, transforming my master plan during the process of my work. When this happens, this is an extraordinary wonderful and exciting process. You know then, as if something or someone is leading your hand, your thoughts and your visual concepts, without understanding why it is happening! I do not know what it is, but I believe that at such moments, the Universe subconsciously directs me in the right direction. These are wonderful moments of inspiration of new ideas. There seems to be some type of elusive game in this; you definitely do not know the rules or the intuitiveness to truly understand what is happening during this period.   If one opens themselves to this immaculate feeling of information that is coming from within and if you accept it with openness, love and gratitude, then this a win for you.  Such times during painting are especially dear to me with my Art.  It seems that they are nourished not only by my love, but also by the energy of the purity of the Cosmos around us.       The beauty of my Art is when I have days when I clearly see the whole image, right in front of me on a blank canvas.  It is so brightly visible and strongly imprinted within me that I just have to transfer this idea to canvas as soon as I can.       It is a wonderful feeling and when my work is done well, there is an amazing feeling of euphoria.  But, of course, until I finish my work, (depending the size of my canvas), it’s more like a marathon, where I can’t stop to eat or rest…I’m just compelled to keep on painting until it is done, and that could take months!  I must purposefully move on.

Is this a skill you learned at school or a natural talent for painting them?

One may have a natural talent, but they still need to learn the same concepts as all artists learn. The more one learns, the better your artwork will become.  It just may be easier for some than for others, but do not get discouraged.  Remember, I had the love of Art when I put my little baby fingers in a multitude of colors and made a Rainbow!  I was hooked!  But, I believe that all people have the ability to paint if they take their time, have patience and learn the same concepts, as all artist had to learn!   I think that talent is not only skill but is the power of inspiration that allows you to follow the path of self-improvement over many years.  If you are truly passionate, patient and not afraid of difficulties, by giving yourself completely to the process, one will see the greatness of the manifestation of one’s work throughout time.

Total immersion hones one’s skills and leads to unimaginable discoveries.  This is CREATION; the magic that can arise, only, if you really love what you are doing.  But, without the labor and without daily works, talent itself cannot develop to its highest expression (much like a person in sports, without practice there is no further transformation, as your natural skills will only get you so far). I always remember this great article entitled “The 10,000 Hour Rule.”  These are the hours that one needs to devote towards work and to hone one’s craft in order to become a professional.  It is very important for more than just brain training and skill acquisition.  This time is needed to worship the cause.  It is impossible to be carried away for a period of time in what one seeks if one is not completely absorbed towards one’s goals.

Painting has become a way of life for me, I just can’t help but paint.

Why did you call your art… “Theatrical Realism”?

A Milestone within my life’s travels throughout the art world, was that not all facets of art have been explored.  This led to my new definition for my art – “Theatrical Realism.”  This is the world between fantasy and reality to which all artists can create their own theatrical scripts of Life, through any form of art. Theater is a concentration of emotions, feelings, dynamics, time.  Fantasy and reality combine, creating a wave of emotions for the viewer.  In one theatrical production, you can find a combination of genres – drama and comedy, morality, etc.  The main point of “Theatrical Realism” is associated with the merging of styles together. My artistic expressions, through painting, are akin to the theater–the music and drama within it.

In a sense, every painter with their brush produces a form of music on canvas, much like the conductor of an orchestra uses their baton to direct the music played.  An Artist may draw their impressions of an old ballad, which brings it to life on canvas, and someone else might draw folk music and capture that, which brings the joy of dance within one’s heart.  In some works of art, a reminder of a Symphony Orchestra is heard deep within the center of one’s soul. Presently, we can even hear or feel the rhythms of rap music and rock-n-roll, etc. in paintings, all making their own statements on canvas.

In my vision “Theatrical Realism” is not limited just for the canvas of an artist. “Theatrical Realism” can also have meaning to those with thoughts of expression of any kind. These artisans can theoretically paint their own paintings but with words like a poet, a song writer, or as well as any specific type of artist!

Many have wondered what I feel…what Art is?
“Art is creative inspiration in any form!”
“I believe all people have the ability to be artists!”
“Art is very important in my life…it’s my heaven on Earth!”

It is my pleasure in doing this interview for you and your viewers.
Thank you for your time and interest!  It has been an Honor!
Sincerely,
Yuliya Zelinskaya
